Welcome to the first issue of FOCUS Adventure newsletter, Challenge Series. The aim of this newsletter is to offer you a view into the world of adventure, learning and creativity – and to show you how adventure experiential learning can help unleash the potential in yourself, your team and your organization.

This newsletter will also be a resource and an inspiration when looking for different ideas on organizational development. Finally we intend to make this a place where you can become more knowledgeable about the new challenges that FOCUS Adventure has come up with and what we and many others in and outside our current community are engaging in.

In this very first issue, we are going to introduce a fascinating facilitation tool that we are very excited about - LEGO SERIOUS PLAY.

LEGO SERIOUS PLAY programs are being used in companies worldwide looking for innovative ways to increase the commitment, confidence and insight of their executives, managers and employees.

In the LSP process, a lot of stories are told and as each participant reveals his/her thinking about the organization or an issue, it leads to a deeper understanding of the thought process of the members, and an awareness of their behaviors and actions in their organizations. Relating this back to the real time scenario in your organization. Being a leader in the organization, are you able to see what are the concerns that are affecting your employees. LEGO SERIOUS PLAY levels the playing field, engaging 100% of attention and participation, giving everyone the equal opportunity to speak up and contribute.

The Science behind LEGO SEROUS PLAY LSP draws upon extensive research from the fields of business, psychology, organization development and education. LSP is built on the theory of Constructionism from Seymour Papert at MIT and his idea of concrete thinking--thinking with and through concrete objects.

Constructionism proposes we gain knowledge when we construct something external to ourselves. Research has shown that the use of objects as part of an inquiry process can make hidden thought more discussable. Constructing internal mental maps becomes easier when you build external models that can be examined, shared, and discussed. In building 3-dimensional models with LEGO bricks, participants literally think with their hands. 80% of brain cells are connected to the hands. The hand becomes an avenue for the brain to construct its own knowledge of the world.

LSP surfaces the unconscious to the conscious bringing about new insights from participants. Learning encompasses both conscious and unconscious processes. We make unconscious associations between various events. http://www.seriousplay.com
