CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility)

FOCUS Adventure firmly believes in giving back to the society and we have been actively supporting underprivileged children and youths from various VWOs. By conducting pro-bono programmes for our beneficiaries, we hope to engage and connect with them through our Adventure Learning methodology. At the same time, we identify participants who display Leadership and a positive attitude, and offer them employment opportunities through our internship programme and scholarships to develop and hone their skills.

Also, we are a member of raiSE (the Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise). In line with our Social Mission – To Facilitate CSR Programmes and Resources between Corporate and VWOs, FOCUS Adventure aims to tap on our current clientele base and our expertise in facilitating Adventure Learning programmes, while incorporating CSR elements to add a meaningful paradigm shift to conventional teambuilding programmes.

If your company is looking to do a CSR programme, do drop us an E-mail at CSR@FOCUSAdventure.com and we will get back to you shortly!

So, the lady went to visit a counselor to seek out happiness.

The counselor called over the old lady who cleaned the office floors.

The counselor then said to the rich lady “I’m going to ask Mary here to tell u how she found happiness. All I want u to do is listen to her.”

So the old lady put down her broom and sat on a chair and told her story:

“Well, my husband died of malaria and three months later my only son was killed by a car. I had nobody. I had nothing left. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t eat, I never smiled at anyone, I even thought of taking my own life. Then one evening a little kitten followed me home from work. Somehow I felt sorry for that kitten. It was cold outside, so I decided to let the kitten in. I got some milk, and the kitten licked the plate clean. Then it purred and rubbed against my leg and, for the first time in months, I smiled.

Then I stopped to think, if helping a little kitten could make me smile, may be doing something for people could make me happy.

So, the next day I baked some biscuits and took them to a neighbor who was sick in bed.

Every day I tried to do something nice for someone. It made me so happy to see them happy.

Today, I don’t know of anybody who sleeps and eats better than I do.

I’ve found happiness, by giving it to others.”

When she heard this, the rich lady cried. She had everything that money could buy, but she had lost the things which money cannot buy.

“The beauty of life does not depend on how happy you are; but on how happy others can be because of you…”

Happiness is not a destination, it’s a journey.

Happiness is not tomorrow, it is now.

Happiness is not dependency, it is a decision.

Happiness is what you are, not what you have..

Our Latest Initiatives!

Hougang Sheng Hong Family Service Centre (HSHFSC) is the first centre set up by Society of Sheng Hong Welfare Services (SSHWS) in January 2000. Its mission is to serve as a neighbourhood focal point that anyone can turn to for any matters relating to family. Our aim is to promote, enhance and maintain the well-being of individuals & families. We believe that well-adjusted individuals build strong family & community. On the other hand, stable family nurtures the healthy growth of individuals & fosters harmonious community.

We have completed our distribution of all the 12 bicycles to children from needy families. They were very happy and appreciative of the special gifts received. To many of them, it is the first time that they receive such expensive gifts. Please send our thanks and appreciation to Schroders for the generous sponsorship.

On 22nd February 2017, FOCUS Adventure hosted 15 staff and scholars from EQUAL-ARK Singapore at our Sentosa Site. EQUAL-ARK is one of our official beneficiary, and they have helped many vulnerable youths remain engaged in the community through education and employment through their philosophy of equine-assisted learning. The EQUAL Scholars program have benefited over 150 beneficiaries from 30 institutions, allowing vulnerable youths to learn and develop skills in teamwork and social inclusion through specialized frameworks.

The 15 of them participated in our Team Challenge Hourglass, which was the highlight of the day for them. It was definitely a big challenge for many of them, having to face their fear of heights and move together as a team. However, it was heartening to see their support and encouragement for each other, ensuring that no one in the team was left behind. We believe that this opportunity is valuable to them and to us, creating the interaction which will develop their social skills, enhance their team bonds and the ability to better control and manage their fears.

On 7th January, we are delighted to hold our first CSR CHALLENGE! – The Supermarket Race Challenge! for 2017. A total of 26 participants from Edwards Lifesciences (HR and Finance Department) had participated in this event. The participants raced around Sentosa and Vivocity, attempting team based challenges to earn the grocery list and budget to purchase the items from the supermarket. The purchased items will be for one of our official beneficiaries – Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF). Working closely with CCF in identifying their needs, the items bought will be given to their children during CCF’s annual children’s camp. As part of CCF’s effort to normalize camp experiences for their children and aid in their development, the 2017 children’s camp was themed “Shine like Stars”. We sincerely hope that the groceries will be put to good use during the camp, in giving energy and a boost to the children! On behalf of CCF and FOCUS Adventure, we will like to give our appreciation to Edwards Lifesciences for their contribution and their efforts in partaking in this meaningful teambuilding event!

Looking to do CSR overseas?

FOCUS Adventure has partnered LooLa Adventure Resort, an award winning eco-resort based in Bintan to empower companies looking to contribute and make an impact in the local community.

LooLa is leading an international research program (involving World Business Council for Sustainable Development and several universities including NUS), to economize further on the original UNICEF-designed wastewater gardens. This project doesn’t only allow economic gains for the local families, it also has deep social impacts and health and environmental benefits.

We are currently exploring the opportunities available, so do look out for more updates to see how your company can be involved in this global project!
