Day 1 – Kickoff!!!

Meeting new people is something I have always enjoyed, and the first day provided a good opportunity to mix with all the participants, most of us trying to judge each other for the first time how the other person is. The energizers helped in setting the right enthusiasm levels for the day and made sure all of us lost our initial qualms about working with one another. For me personally, it was an opportunity to see through a participants’ eye, some of the activities which I had just seen being executed before to perfection by the experienced facilitators.

The morning session was an eye-opener, making us think about different ways to approach a problem and how a change in mindset is essential for success to solve challenges. 23 Adults struggling and shouting at a hula hoop was good fun and you could see a mix of frustration, puzzlement and a myriad of expression…But nothing beat the time when all of us got the “Aaah” feeling – “That is what it means!!!!!”.

The afternoon was outdoors on Low Elements, where we learnt the basic concepts of activities aimed at demonstrating leadership, integrity and a host of other core values, and tonnes of fun while doing so!!!! The trolley activity especially was an eye opener, with 20+ mature people screaming “ Left, Right, Left” in painful synchronization, and realizing again at the end that they had behaved in a manner which they had been conditioned to by the skillful facilitator!

Day 2 : Getting to know each other better….

Coffee conversations were getting better, moving away from the routine, “Hi, how are you doing?” as we started understanding each other a bit more. The morning session involved a mix of indoor MAPs (MOBILE ADVENTURE PROGRAMMES) and an introduction to the DISC Profiling Tool. Some were happy with their own profiles, there were others wondering “Am I a psycho?”(yours truly included, not surprisingly) after finding out the results of their own profiling.

The afternoon highlighted the importance of safety in program activities, and we had loads of fun climbing the Low Wall (the wall seemed too darn high to be called a “Low Wall”!!). Some of us were pulled up by hands & legs, and some even by their belts, waist bands and shoelaces. The important thing is that we managed to complete it as a team!!:-) The trust fall was fun as well…Some people were getting over the fear of asking” Team, can I trust you?” and expecting replies like “Maybe”, “Cannot”..

Evening was the much anticipated trip to Bintan by ferry, and we reached the CAMP CHALLENGE Site in Nirwana Gardens. Wow, the place is beautiful, one of those seemingly untouched pieces of natural beauty. It seemed like the perfect setting to bond with new friends and learn new things.
