Congratulations to all graduates of Basic Facilitator Course 10 (BFC 10)!
The 5-day course may have ended but the spirit of the team still lives.
BFC 10 was held on the 12-16 October 2007 in Sentosa, Ubin and Bintan. 17 individuals partook and emerged as 1 strong team from the course.
FOCUS Adventure welcomes its new family members and looks forward to seeing the 10s lead the 11s from the next BFC!

I joined the BFC with the intent of ‘evaluating’ if being a facilitator is something I might enjoy doing as a career because from experiences, it really does not make much sense to do something you don’t enjoy as a career since you would be doing it for the next 20-30 years!
At the BFC, I enjoyed myself tremendously because of new found friends and the opportunity to learn to appreciate one another and how I could communicate better because we are all uniquely different.
BFC has also allowed me to understand at a deeper level how there is always something new we can learn from our every day to day activity as long as we learn to take time out from our busy schedule to ponder and meditate on them.
Thank you once again to Mr. Andrew Chua and the FOCUS team for making my time at the BFC super memorable… it will be an experience I would share with others for the longest time.”
I will remember the five-day BFC as a journey of re-discovering myself. It is also memorable for there was a heightened awareness of the power of learning about self, team and others through the skilful facilitation by Andrew Chua.
Besides being able to rise to the physical and mental challenges as an individual, I have relearned that conquering challenges like the TCP can be more enjoyable as a team, for climbing up a seemingly indomitable challenge (or simply, climbing metaphorically or literally) by oneself can be lonely.
It is again an old chapter revisited; that the individual member of the team has the power to bring out the best in each other, “if we hold on together.”
I have attended a few teambuilding programmes with my past employers but none has been as exciting, enlightening and fun as BFC 10. I’ve come out of it more confident in myself and the things I can achieve if I put my mind to it. It’s simply amazing how, after only 5 days, our team has bonded and we are a family – the FOCUS Family. The friendships formed during these days will definitely last an eternity.
All the activities, from MAP to TCP, have reminded me of the value of teamwork, collaboration, trust and faith. The High Elements and Team Challenge Pyramid were my biggest challenges. Without the support and encouragement from my team and fellow course-mates, I would never have completed the TCP. Turning FEAR into FAITH is something very new to me. I’ve always faced challenges head-on but now I have renewed energy to face those challenges that seem unachievable and scary. I know that by working together, we can achieve anything.
Andrew not only opened my eyes to the world of Adventure Learning; he also showed me the professionalism and tact required to be an effective Facilitator and Project Manager. The initiation into the FOCUS Family was one of those things I’ll remember for life.
I’m happy and extremely privileged to have been part of BFC 10 and am proud to wear the FOCUS colours and project the FOCUS image. BFC 10 is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you can only get here at FOCUS. We met as strangers and became a family. That is the FOCUS way!
I’m never an adventurous or sporty person. Attending such courses has never come across my mind ever since I was in my secondary school days. *I even find all ways to skip those training courses in those days* All my friends were very shocked to hear me attending this course after knowing how challenging all the activities will be (e.g. The Team Challenge Pyramid). But I’ve no idea why, I decided to go for this course with the intention to just move a step at a time.
AND.. I’VE MADE IT!
I truly enjoyed myself throughout the course and have definitely made a lot of new friends, from all over the world. I’ve finally fully understood that nothing is impossible - it’s whether you want to do it or not, rather than can or cannot. And most importantly, FOCUS – focus on what you’re supposed to do and be clear with your final goal!
Had lots of fun and laughter these 5 days, Where Every Moment Is A Challenge! I truly enjoyed all the activities (be it indoor, outdoor, low, high or very high), their learning points and these 5 days taught me to think from different perspectives. Am also glad that I got the chance to know my colleagues better and even got to see the adventurous side of them! Last but not least, I truly appreciated the art and skill of facilitation ;) Big thanks to Andrew, Adam, all our instructors and my BFC mates who made this BFC memorable and special the way it was.
I have a very fulfilling and meaningful time during this BFC 10. I have pushed and experienced different challenges and have also learned a lot from others. I found that being a good facilitator is not easy. The high and low elements each derive different life formulas for me. The TCP is fun and teamwork is about everything. The only set back is that I do not have the chance to complete all the challenges.
Last but not least, it brought me the opportunity to know more friends and also enhance my knowledge in the construction of the structures.
It was really an unforgetable experience, esp not expecting i would be abe to join such a challenge. It was really great because i get to meet different people around the world and made friends. And finally i conquered my greatest fear which is "heights".
I never even dare to ride a cyclone loop (rollercoaster) before but here was like so much extreme. I had experienced being thrown in different directions haha and i got to scream for 5 consecutive days.
I believe we learned a lot from this 5 day course .I could still remember climbing theTCP in moonlight. At that time these activities became romantic. It's simply impressive.
Those people were strangers to me, but within these few days through the amazing challenges, they became my mates!! BFC 10 that's where the adventure started and none of us can say when it will end.
Thank you guys for the the welcome!
My time at BFC 10 has been an awakening experience in experiential learning. I really had a wonderful time. I have made many new friends and lost a few pounds. My Advice to anyone interested in the course is go for it.
BFC 10 has been a life-changing experience. It raised me up, so I could stand on mountains, it raised me up, to walk on stormy seas, it raised me up to more than I could be. BFC 10 also made me realized the true beauty I possess inside. It gave me a sense of pride, and reminded me of how I used to be.
